asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether a formal invitation has yet been sent to the First Deputy Foreign Minister of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics; if a date has been set for the visit; and if he will make a statement.

There is an outstanding formal invitation to First Deputy Foreign Minister Kornienko to visit the United Kingdom. We hope that dates for this visit can be agreed soon.
