HC Deb 03 February 1984 vol 53 c391W
Mr. Randall

asked the Secretary of State for Employment why the community action scheme in Hull has been asked to reduce its intake of youngsters by 30 and to dismiss six of its staff.

Mr. Peter Morrison

The community action scheme has places for 359 youngsters. Only 285 of these places are currently occupied. Forecasts of demand indicate that not all these places will be needed in the future. Since there is a cost to the taxpayer in maintaining unfilled places on this kind of scheme the Manpower Services Commission is seeking to cut this cost by reducing the number of places on the scheme by 54 by September this year.
