asked the the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement on the balance of payments.

The current account in 1983 is provisionally estimated to have been in surplus by £2 billion. There has been encouraging growth in exports in recent months, with export volumes in the fourth quarter of 1983 9 per cent. above the level in the previous quarter.
