§ Mr. Hurd[pursuant to his reply, 20 January 1984, c. 327]: The information requested is not recorded centrally. The only readily available information relates to the offence for which the prisoner was sentenced, and the offence of absconding from custody is not separately identifiable. On 30 November 1983 about 80 prisoners in Ranby prison were serving sentences for offences of violence against the person, five for sexual offences and 10 for drug offences. Similar numbers were serving sentences there for such offences on 30 November 1981, the earliest year for which corresponding figures are available.
