asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many citizens of the Irish Republic are presently living in the United Kingdom.

I have been asked to reply.

It is estimated from the labour force survey that there were about half a million citizens of the Irish Republic living in the United Kingdom in the second quarter of 1983. This estimate includes some persons who hold dual British/Irish citizenship. Further information on Irish

invalidity pension or severe disablement allowance for the years 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983 and 1984 under the various boards.

citizens living in Great Britain is given in table 12 of the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys' monitor "Labour Force Survey 1983: country of birth, ethnic origin, nationality and year of entry" (reference LFS 84/2).
