HC Deb 21 December 1984 vol 70 c412W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make representations to the Advisory Committee on Borderline Substances to review its decision that Nicorette should not be prescribed for patients wishing to stop smoking.

Mr. John Patten

Last month the Advisory Committee on Borderline Substances reviewed the status of Nicorette in the light of recent publicity given to this product. It reaffirmed its earlier advice that the value of Nicorette in general practice remains unproven and that it should not therefore be prescribed by general practitioners.
