asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what recommendations he now intends to issue arising from the findings of the Health Education Council concerning the effects of extreme cold upon elderly citizens.

The Health Education Council is funding a three year project ("Your Right To Be Warm") in Leeds. This includes the development of a pack of training materials and information on all aspects of keeping warm. Apart from this project, which is still being evaluated, we are not aware of any findings by the Health Education Council on the effects of extreme cold on elderly people.
