HC Deb 20 December 1984 vol 70 cc287-8W
35. Mr. Deakins

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many Tamils have benefited from the moratorium on removal from the United Kingdom to Sri Lanka.

Mr. Waddington

Since the end of April 1984 no Sri Lankan Tamil who has expressed a fear of return to Sri Lanka has been deported or removed. In about 85 cases deportation or removal action has been suspended. In about 300 other cases applications for asylum are still under consideration.
