§ Mr. Mikardoasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the cost of the rates forgone, plus the cost of infrastructure works of creating each new job in the Isle of Dogs enterprise zone, excluding jobs in construction, jobs in the London Docklands Development Corporation's own offices, and jobs in Cannon Workshops.
§ Sir George YoungThe London borough of Tower Hamlets and Newham have claimed the following amounts of rates forgone in the Isle of Dogs enterprise zone:
£ Newham *208,738 Tower Hamlets †4,556,053 * To 30 September 1983. † To 30 September 1984. By October of this year the corporation had carried out infrastructure and environmental works in the enterprise zone costing £21.543 million. Excluding jobs in construction, in LDDC's own offices, and in Cannon workshops, 732 jobs have been created. It is premature to make comparisons between the infrastructure works costs and the numbers of jobs created. The infrastructure works serve further sites now under development or in preparation.
The corporation estimate that by 1992 total expenditure in the enterprise zone will amount to £45 million. The resulting development capacity could produce 14,000 jobs at a cost per job of £3,215.
