HC Deb 19 December 1984 vol 70 c241W
37. Mr. Greg Knight

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he has received any representations on reform of the existing legislation on copyright.

Mr. Fletcher

Following publication in 1981 of the Government's Green Paper "Reform of the Law relating to Copyright, Designs and Performers' Protection" (Cmnd. 8302), my Department has received several hundred comments on all aspects of copyright. In recent weeks Ministers have received representations on home taping, record rental and software piracy.

45. Mr. Hanley

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he has any plans to reform the Copyright Act 1956.

Mr. Channon

Work is continuing in my Department on a comprehensive reform of the Copyright Act 1956, but it is not possible at this stage to say when a Bill will be introduced. However significant amendments to the Act in respect of video and record piracy and cable and satellite television have already been brought into effect.
