Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment why information was sought from the Greater London council on the renewal of the contract with Cleanaway Limited for the landfill disposal of solid waste at Stone, Dartford, Kent; and why there has been delay in granting consent under provisions of the Local Government (Interim Provisions) Act 1984.

The delay was the result of the GLC's failure to supply basic information necessary to enable proper consideration to be given to its application.

Consent has now been given.
