HC Deb 12 December 1984 vol 69 c508W
Mr. Donald Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his Department's estimate of the contribution from emissions from fossil fuel-fired power stations in the United Kingdom to the total acid deposition in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Waldegrave

[pursuant to his reply, 11 November 1984, c. 446]: The relationship between emissions and deposition can be derived only from mathematical models. On this basis it is estimated that about half of the total acid deposition within the United Kingdom comes from United Kingdom fossil fuel-fired power stations.

Mr. Donald Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what proportion of the fall in total sulphur dioxide emissions from United Kingdom sources (a) between 1970 and 1980 and (b) from 1980 to date, has been because of reductions in emissions from Central Electricity Generating Board power stations.

Mr. Waldegrave

[pursuant to his reply, 11 November 1984, c. 446]: The information, based on provisional figures for 1983, is as follows:

  1. (a) none
  2. (b) 30 per cent.
