§ 61. Mr. Leadbitterasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether, during the recent visit to Iraq of the Minister of State, indications were given concerning the release of two British subjects currently serving long prison sentences in that country.

Unfortunately, I received no assurance that either prisoners would be released in the near future.Our cultural relations, with particular reference to the good work of the British Council in Baghdad.Our commercial relations, in the light of my right hon. Friend the Minister for Trade's earlier visit.I also reiterated our strong condemnation of terrorism.
For their part, the Iraqi authorities declared that they were firmly against terrorist actions.
