HC Deb 11 December 1984 vol 69 c419W
Mr. Donald Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the planned location and function of the Northern Europe tracking station which the United States air force plans to establish in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Lee

The proposed Northern Europe tracking station would be part of a modernisation of the United States worldwide satellite tracking network. As the House was informed on 28 June, we have already approved one joint Anglo-American project to establish a communications antenna at RAE Oakhangar, to enhance the existing co-operation between ourselves and the United States in the field of satellite communications, in particular in support of the Skynet 4 satellite project and the space shuttle. The possibility of a second Anglo-American project to establish a further tracking dish at Oakhangar is still under consideration.
