HC Deb 11 December 1984 vol 69 c428W
32. Mr. Dixon

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement concerning his ordering plans for naval construction work.

Mr. Lee

In the next year it is planned to order the following ships: two type 22 frigates (22–13 and 14), the first of the Trident class SSBNs, a nuclear-powered fleet submarine SSN19, two mine counter-measure vessels (MCMV 12 and 13), the first of class of the single-role minehunter and the second Upholder class conventional submarine. For the years beyond 1985 there are firm plans to order three more Trident submarines, six of the new one-stop replenishment ship the AOR, and Upholder class submarines at the rate of about one per annum. Further type 23 frigates will be ordered once the build of class, HMS Norfolk, is sufficiently advanced, with the order for 02 expected in about 18 months' time.
