§ Mr. Giles ShawThe BBC has submitted an application for an increase in the licence fee but in accordance with past practice my right hon. and learned Friend does not propose to disclose the details of the request submitted or the precise way in which he will examine it. He will, however, take account of the findings of the independent consultants appointed by the BBC, at his suggestion, to examine the scope for the BBC to provide its existing services at their present standard but at lower cost through increased efficiency in the use of resources.
