Lord Dunleathasked Her Majesty's Government:
The price of the tender accepted for the new coal-fired boilerhouse in the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast; what was the final cost of this contract; and whether any action was taken against the contractor for the delay in completing the contract.
§ The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Northern Ireland Office (Lord Lyell)The completion of the new coal-fired boilerhouse in the Royal Victoria Hospital involved five separate contracts for piling works, building works, electrical and mechanical engineering services and for the manufacture and installation of boilers. The total value of these contracts let in 1976–77 was £1,085,467. Expenditure to date, including increased costs due to inflation and other payments due under the provisions of the contracts is £1,380,233. All final accounts have not been settled but the final cost is not expected to exceed £1,400,000
I am satisfied that there were no grounds for taking action against any of the contractors for the delay in completing the contracts.
