HC Deb 04 December 1984 vol 69 cc134-5W
Dr. Cunningham

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) how many persons were receiving after care by the probation and after care service in each metropolitan county area at 31 December in each year since 1974 by sex and type of contact and type of after care;

(2) how many persons were supervised by the probation and after care service in each metropolitan county area at 31 December in each year since 1974 by sex and type of supervision.

Mr. Mellor

[pursuant to his reply, 23 November, c. 302]: Summary information from 1978 is given in the following table; corresponding information is not readily available for earlier years. To provide a more detailed breakdown, including an analysis by sex, would involve disproportionate cost.

* Each person is counted once for each type of supervision to which they were subject. Individual figures do not add to the total because each person is counted only once in the total irrespective of the number of types of supervision to which they were subject. All figures are rounded to the nearest 10.

¶ Figures relate to 30 June and may be subject to a wider margin of error than earlier figures; figures for 31 December are not available because of industrial action by some members of the probation service.
