HC Deb 04 December 1984 vol 69 c95W
47. Dr. McDonald

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what level of spending the Government plan by local authorities on education, including meals and milk, in 1985–86.

Mr. Dunn

In its plans for local authority current expenditure in 1985–86, the Government have allocated £10,259 to education, including meals and milk. This represents an increase of about 6 per cent. in cash over the sum allocated to education in 1984–85, after allowing for the abolition of the national insurance surcharge and the transfer of some funding within non-advanced further education to the MSC. In addition, it is likely that, as in previous years, authorities will choose to devote to education some of that part of total current expenditure which is not allocated between services.
