§ Mr. Kenneth Clarke
Trent has been a major beneficiary from our policy of distributing health resources more fairly throughout the country. Over the past six years Trent has consistently received a higher rate of growth than the national average. Between 1978–79 and 1983–84, revenue spending by the region has increased by over 18 per cent. compared with general inflation. Nationally, revenue spending has increased by about 15 per cent. As a result the region has moved closer to its target allocation. It is now some 4½ per cent. below its RAWP target compared with 7½ per cent. in 1978–79. The short term growth assumptions we gave the region in September show this trend continuing.
