HC Deb 03 December 1984 vol 69 c2W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will supply the monthly total by district for (a) the number of stop and searches undertaken by Metropolitan police officers for the period January 1983 to September 1984, (b) the number of arrests arising from these stop and searches for the same period and (c) the number of charges, broken down by offence, arising from these stop and searches for the same period.

Mr. Giles Shaw

I understand from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that the available information is as given in the following table. The table shows the number of persons or vehicles recorded as stopped; figures for stops of persons and stops of vehicles are not separately identifiable. Statistics showing the number of occasions on which a search was conducted are not available. Monthly figures and details of charges are not collected centrally and could only be obtained at disproportionate cost.
