Mr. Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is his latest estimate of the number of skillcentre places available per 100,000 work force in Yorkshire and Humberside and West Yorkshire, respectively; and how these figures compare with those for each English region.

Mr. Peter Morrison

For each 100,000 of the work force in September 1984 it is estimated the following skillcentre places were available:

Yorkshire and Humberside 46
—of which, West Yorkshire 57
Northern region 83

North-West 54
Midlands 42
South-West 56
South-East 39

Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) if he will make a statement on the timing and location of skillcentre closures, skillcentre annex closures and skillcentre staff redundancies necessary to meet the targets of the skillcentre business plan and on the position in each Manpower Services Commission region;

(2) if he will make a statement on his plans to develop the skillcentre network in Britain and, in particular, in London.

Mr. Peter Morrison

I refer the hon. Member to my right hon. Friend's statement to the House on 29 November at column 1108.
