HC Deb 03 December 1984 vol 69 cc16-7W
Mr. Beaumont-Dark

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what steps the Registrar of Friendly Societies is taking to ensure that the National Union of Mineworkers is complying with its statutory obligations as such a society.

Mr. Ian Stewart

The Trade Union and Labour Relations Act 1974 provides that no trade union can be registered under the Friendly Societies Act 1974. The functions relating to trade unions which were formerly performed by the Chief Registrar are now performed by the Certification Officer in accordance with the Employment Protection Act 1975.
