HC Deb 03 December 1984 vol 69 c36W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for Transport (1) what strengthening of his London divisions and regional offices have been carried out or are proposed to accommodate the increased use of reserve powers envisaged in the White Paper, "Streamlining the Cities", and his own consultation paper with London boroughs on the allocation of transport responsibilities in London;

(2) what estimate he has made of how many staff will be required in his Department to monitor and evaluate proposals from the London boroughs for the proposed strategic road network in London on which he will have reserve powers as proposed in his May 1984 consultation paper.

Mrs. Chalker

The role proposed for my Department is unlikely to have significant manpower implications, nor is it likely that extensive use of reserve powers will be necessary.
