HC Deb 03 December 1984 vol 69 c34W
Sir John Biggs-Davision

asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he will move to establish appropriate means for providing for relieving future traffic congestion at the Dartford tunnel.

Mrs. Chalker

The Department is meeting the cost of providing additional toll booths at the tunnel and of widening the approach roads, all of which work, when completed, will enable the tunnel to handle the increase in traffic expected over the next few years. I am considering the longer-term implications for the tunnel in the more general context of expected growth rates of M25 and also of local traffic.
