§ Mr. Baldry
asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on recent meetings of the Council of Development Ministers in Brussels.
§ Mr. Raison
The Council of Development Ministers met on 6 November 1984 in Brussels. At the United Kingdom's request, the main topic of discussion was the Community response to the famine in Ethiopia and other African countries. The Council endorsed an addition of 32 million ecu (£19 million) to the Community aid budget for this purpose. I urged early agreement on the Community's 1985 food aid programme and concentration of food aid on emergency needs.
