HC Deb 30 April 1984 vol 59 c28W
Mr. Ron Davies

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what representations he has received from Mid-Glamorgan county council seeking his assistance in locating a suitable site for a replacement primary school at Senghenydd.

Mr. John Stradling Thomas

None.

Mr. Ron Davies

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if, prior to approving capital expenditure on any new primary school at Senghenydd, he will request a copy of the Ove Arup report on the proposed site commissioned by Mid-Glamorgan county council; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Stradling Thomas

My right hon. Friend does not, except in the case of projects of national or regional importance, approve local authorities' educational capital expenditure on the basis of individual schemes, but within an undifferentiated allocation which authorities apply at their own discretion. Subject to compliance with prescribed design criteria, local education authorities are responsible for their own educational building activities.
