HC Deb 30 April 1984 vol 59 c36W
Mr.Chris Smith

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) if he will state how many, and what type, of management agreements have been negotiated to date by the national park authorities to protect land in national parks under section 41 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act;

(2) if he will state how many and what type, of management agreements are currently being negotiated by the national park authorities to protect land in national parks under section 41 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act;

(3) if he will estimate the overall anticipated financial cost to the national park authorities of concluding the management agreements currently being negotiated to protect areas in national parks under section 41 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

Mr.Waldegrave

No mandatory agreements arising from section 41 of the Act have been negotiated by national park authorities, nor, currently, are under negotiation. However, the Countryside Commission paid grant in respect of the first year's costs of six voluntary management agreements concluded by national park authorities in 1983–84. The total cost to the authorities concerned was £77,167.
