HC Deb 30 April 1984 vol 59 c4W
Mr. David Young

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on the arrest and detention of the Libyan press attaché, indicating why he was held and for how long.

Mr. Brittan

The Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis tells me that Mr. Omar El Sudani was arrested at 8.45 am on 17 April in St. James's Square for obstructing the police in the execution of their duty, contrary to section 51(3) of the Police Act 1964. He remained at Vine Street police station pending the completion of inquiries, and was released at 2.25 am on 18 April without charge.
