asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many British military and civilian personnel are engaged in training the Belize defence force; when the Government expect this training to be completed; how many of these are loan service personnel; and how many are there from each service.

Mr. Whitney

A programme for enhancement of the Belize defence force, agreed when Belize became independent in 1981, is due to be completed by early 1986. Thirteen loan service personnel are engaged in the task: three) Royal Navy, eight Army and two (shortly to increase to three Royal Air Force. The British garrison also assists. No civilian personnel are involved.
