Mr. Corbyn

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what are the numbers of people over the age of 65, 75 and 85 years, by men and women, living in the constituency of Islington, North.

The numbers of men and women aged 65 years and over, 75 years and over and 85 years and over recorded as resident in Islington, North in the 1981 census of population were as follows:

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether the figures in table 6, "Census 1981", Persons of Pensionable Age, Great Britain can be reproduced in respect of each of the London boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham.

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the availability of (a) geriatric beds in National Health Service hospitals, (b) places in homes for the elderly and (c) home-help staff, within the Islington, North constituency.

We do not collect statistics on a constituency basis. The most useful figures available are those collected from Islington health authority and Islington local authority.

The latest information submitted to the Department is as follows:

  1. (a) Iin 1982 the average daily number of available geriatric beds in NHS hospitals in Islington Health Authority was 167.
  2. (b) At 31 March 1983 the number of places available for the elderly and elderly mentally infirm was:
