asked the Secretary of State for Social Services in what newspapers or other publications and on what dates advertisements inviting people to apply for repayment of moneys wrongly deducted from their supplementary benefit on grounds of voluntary unemployment have appeared or will appear.

Mrs. Beckett

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many payments of supplementary benefit have been made to people who suffered wrongful unemployment deductions as a result of the examination of current cases and the publicity campaign, respectively; and what was the total amount paid, to the latest available date.

Dr. Boyson

At 13 March 1984 the examination of current cases had resulted in 8,359 payments totalling £203,254, and the publicity campaign in 180 payments totalling £4,927.
