§ Mr. John Patten[pursuant to his reply, 5 April 1984, c. 645–46]: The total number of patients under treatment for end stage renal failure was 5,390 on 31 December 1978 and 8,927 on 31 December 1982, an increase over the period of 66 per cent. The figures of 2,331 and 3,994 given in my earlier reply were for the number of patients with a functioning kidney transplant. I apologise for this mistake. The number of new patients starting treatment were correctly stated in the original reply.
