Mr. Kaufman

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many conferences have been held to date at Ditchley park, Oxfordshire, and on what dates, in order to discuss general topics of concern to the police service; who has been invited to each conference; who has actually attended; who chaired each conference; and who are the 36 participants who have been invited to attend the weekend conference from 6 to 8 April on the topic of the public and police.

There have been six conferences so far; on terrorism in 1976, preventive policing in 1977, juveniles and the police in 1978, policing in the 1990s in 1979, the police and the public in 1980, and developing police effectiveness within the framework of the Police Act 1964, in 1982. I shall write to the right hon. Member with further details.
