Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many home helps are employed by the Eastern health and social services board in the Down, North area; and what information he has as to how many are employed in homes of the elderly who live alone or with a spouse and in the homes of the elderly who either live with younger relatives or in close proximity thereto.

At 31 December 1983, 661 home helps (159 whole-time equivalents) were employed by the board in the Down, North and Ards unit of Management.

Information is not available on the number of these employed in the types of households cited by the hon. Gentleman.
