HC Deb 06 April 1984 vol 57 c672W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Transport which organisations have objected to the proposal to widen the Barton high level bridge section of the M63 motorway; and whether such organisations or any individuals who have objected are in any way adversely affected directly by the proposals as occupants of nearby properties.

Mrs. Chalker

There are now four objections to our published bridge widening proposals. The Greater Manchester transport action group, Friends of the Earth, and one individual—who does not live near the bridge —do not accept the case for widening the motorway. The North-West gas board requires a more detailed explanation of the effect on a gas main.

The public inquiry to begin on 15 May will also concern our proposals for widening M63 north of Barton bridge where there are two objections from occupants of nearby property; British Rail has also objected about the effect of the scheme on a railway bridge.
