§ Mr. Tom Coxasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the current level of British aid to Sudan; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. RaisonBritish bilateral aid to the Sudan for the financial years 1981–82, 1982–83 and 1983–84 amounted to £24.086 million, £27.437 million and £28.500 million (estimate) respectively. We expect disbursements of about £30 million in 1984–85.
In addition, Britain assisted with the refugee problem and contributed £0.8 million in 1982–83 and £2.5 million in 1983–84 to the relief efforts of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees and voluntary agencies for their work in Sudan.
Britain also assists as a member of the European Community and other international organisations such as the World Bank.
