HC Deb 04 April 1984 vol 57 c541W
Mr. Beith

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what he estimates will be the annual increase in United Kingdom contributions to European Economic Community funds arising from the removal of value added tax exemptions proposed in his Budget statement.

Mr. Ian Stewart

The harmonised VAT base from which EEC own resources contributions are assessed includes the value of all final consumption on both standard rated and zero rated goods and services. The changes in rates proposed in the Budget will therefore produce no increase in either the VAT base or the UK EEC contributions.
