HC Deb 04 April 1984 vol 57 c579W
Mr. Leigh

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the policy of Her Majesty's Government towards the inclusion of UNITA in future negotiations with the Angolan Government.

Mr. Rifkind

The internal problems of Angola are matters for Angolans alone to decide.

Mr. Leigh

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether the Government in the past 12 months have warned British citizens working in Angola that they might be at risk.

Mr. Rifkind

Our embassy in Luanda has kept in regular contact with Britons working in the diamond mining area and with the company that employs them regarding the internal security situation and the risks that exist. The company has not considered it necessary to withdraw its personnel.

Mr. Leigh

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent information Her Majesty's Government have received concerning the safety of the British citizens being held hostage in Angola.

Mr. Rifkind

We have received confirmation that all the British hostages are in good health.
