HC Deb 04 April 1984 vol 57 cc552-3W
20. Mr. Simon Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how much progress has been made in the United Kingdom in implementing the 1979 Geneva convention on long-range trans-boundary air pollution.

Mr. Waldegrave

The convention provides for international co-operation in tackling the problem of long-range trans-boundary air pollution. The UK is participating fully in this work.

45. Mr. Ron Davies

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he plans any further changes to the laws affecting air pollution.

Mr. Waldegrave

The review of air pollution control legislation, which the Government announced in response to the Fifth Report of the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution is in progress. It will now also take account of the EC directive on air pollution from industrial plants which, subject to a parliamentary reserve by the United Kingdom, was agreed on 1 March. A consultation paper will be issued in due course.
