HC Deb 02 April 1984 vol 57 c426W
Mr. Steen

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps the Government are taking to encourage the re-use of vacant or under used land in urban areas.

Mr. Macfarlane

In various degrees the urban and derelict land programmes, the land registers, enterprise zones and urban development areas all contribute to the Government's objective of making the most productive use of unused and underused land in urban areas and of recycling it for that purpose. In addition, the Government encourage local authorities and other public bodies to make a similar contribution and simultaneously to improve their assets by disposing of idle land for development or by bringing it into new use.
