Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what has been the increase in registered unemployment in Wales between 1979 and February 1984 on the following bases, totals, male and female separately (a) annually, including youth unemployment and excluding seasonal adjustments, (b) annually, excluding youth unemployment and including seasonal adjustments, (c) what have been the annual numbers of persons removed from the register by temporary employment measures and (d) what would the series in (a) and (b) be if recalculated on the old basis of unemployment counting.

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will publish redundancy figures for Wales for the individual years 1979 through to 1983 on the following bases (a) using Manpower Services Commission data on notified redundancies and (b) using data collected under the provisions of the Employment Protection (Consolidation) Act showing redundancy payments actually made and claims for rebate received.

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that the number of notified redundancies in Wales in the years concerned were as follows:
