§ Mr. PattieThe shell of the new Mk 6 combat helmet is required to provide protection to the head against high intensity thermal radiation, and it has been successfully tested for this. The helmet shell has also been tested for non-flammability in various fire conditions, and the cloth cover and chinstrap tested for melting characteristics. The helmet will protect the wearer's head against heat, flame and flash conditions at least to the point where he is likely to succumb to their effects on less well protected parts of his body.
