(2) how many members of the Armed Forces have been convicted in Northern Ireland and sentenced to serve terms of imprisonment for the period 1968 to 1983; and of these, how many served their sentence in Northern Ireland and how many served their sentences in parts of the United Kingdom local to where they came from before joining the forces.
§ Mr. ScottThe information sought is not readily available in the form requested, and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost. However, records show that in the period 1969 to 1979, 65 members of the Army were sentenced to imprisonment in Northern Ireland, of whom 17 served their sentences wholly in Northern Ireland; and from 1968 to date, 52 members of the armed forces who were convicted in Northern Ireland were permanently transferred to prisons in Great Britain.
