§ Mr. BrookeApart from science education in schools, colleges and universities, my right hon. Friend's responsibilities for civil science are set out in the Science and Technology Act 1965. He appoints members of the five research councils and provides an annual grant in aid to the councils, the British museum (natural history) and 101W the Royal Society. He is advised by the advisory board for the research councils. My right hon. Friend also supports scientific research in the universities through the general grant to the University Grants Committee.
