§ Mr. Colin Shepherdasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what has been the total of special aid given to the fishing industry for the period March 1974 to April 1979 and for the period April 1979 to the present date.
§ Mr. Buchanan-SmithA total of £14.09 million special aid was paid to the United Kingdom fishing fleet in the financial years 1974–75 to 1978–79. Expenditure on special aid from April 1979 to date totals £57.15 million. "Special aid" excludes on-going schemes to provide grants and loans for investment in fishing vessels and shore facilities and the establishment of producer organisations.
§ Sir Walter Cleggasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement setting out the latest position regarding the implementation of the reconstruction of the fishing industry under the regulations for the European Community.
§ Mr. Buchanan-SmithWe have issued a consultative document as a basis for discussion with the industry on how best to encourage the adaptation and development of the United Kingdom fishing fleet in the light of the decisions reached in the negotiations on the revised common fisheries policy.
