Mr. Waller

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how much private sector investment on current plans will be generated by derelict land grant approvals under the new category A scheme introduced in 1982–83.

Mr. King

In 1982–83 I approved 33 category A schemes involving local authority expenditure of £15 million, which will lead to private sector expenditure on development totalling some £81 million, a ratio of 1:5 of public to private sector funds. For 1983–84 I have approved 46 schemes involving £30 million of local authority expenditure, which will lead to some £200 million of private sector investment, a ratio of over 1:6; I placed details of those schemes in the Library on 15 February.

Mr. Trippier

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will set out in the Official Report the total derelict land grant programme allocations for each year from 1979–80 to date; and if he will break this down by region.

The amount allocated for approved derelict land reclamation schemes for the years in question was:
