HL Deb 11 May 1983 vol 442 c547WA
Baroness Macleod of Borve

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How much financial aid, and what aid in kind, is given to Malawi.

Lord Belstead

In the current financial year we expect to provide £12.8 million of bilateral aid to Malawi, all in grant form. It is anticipated that £5.9 million will be disbursed as capital aid, while £6.9 million will be spent on technical co-operation activities, mainly for manpower assistance in the form of support for British staff working in Malawi and training for Malawians in the United Kingdom. In addition, Malawi can expect to receive substantial assistance from multilateral development institutions, such as the European Development Fund, the International Development Association, and the United Nations Development Programme, to which Britain is a major contributor.
