asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is the latest estimate of the number of employees in employment in Wales; and how this compares with the mid-year figures for 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1982.

The latest estimate is that there were 896,000 employees in employment in Wales in September 1982. This compares with estimated figures for June 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1982 of 1,029,000 1,001,000, 935,000 and 900,000, respectively.
