§ Mr. Cartwrightasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received about the need to review the operation of the Shops Act 1950; and what decision he has reached.
§ Mr. MellorSince the debate on 4 February on the Bill introduced by my hon. Friend the Member for Wycombe (Mr. Whitney), representations have been received from the all-party group for the retail trade, the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers, organisations representing the retail trade, local authorities, consumers and tourism, religious organisations and members of the public. We are currently considering in the light of these representations whether a review of the operation of the shops legislation would be desirable and what form such a review might take.
